Janie Dorrett Brown Jones
Janie passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, August 16th at 94 years of age. She was born January 13, 1926 in Rochelle, Louisiana. Her family moved to Fountain Hill, Arkansas shortly afterward. When she was 18, she went to beauty school, became a beautician, and worked at beauty shops in Texarkana. In 1946, her best friend introduced her to her brother, Buddy Jones, who had just returned from WWII. They were married until his death in 2008. They moved to Odessa, Texas where their children were born and raised. She worked for Ector County Independent School District then retired to Waxahachie in 1984. Over the years, she enjoyed living across the driveway from her daughter and family. She loved to visit and help take care of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a wonderful cook, and prepared three meals a day at 7 a.m., noon, and 5 p.m. for the entire 62 years that they were married. She cooked for over twenty years for the elementary school children in Odessa. When company was coming, her first thought was what she was going to cook for them. She loved it and was very successful!
She is preceded in death by her husband, William Richard Jones (Buddy) and three brothers, John Earl, Ernest, and Raymond Brown. She is survived by a daughter, Debbie (John) Tabor of Waxahachie, a son, Richard (Gale) Jones of Chandler, Texas, grandchildren, J.W. and Justin (Jeanne) Tabor, Emily Green, Hazel (Scott) Fullbright, Jessica (Sam) Swilling, Jeff, Andy and Joey (Angie) Jones, 9 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild and a sister, Helen Foreman of Dayton, Texas.
The family would like to thank Dr. John Bousquet and the Brookdale Memory Care family for such loving and exceptional care for Mother. They went above and beyond what we could have imagined for her!
