James Maddox

January 9, 1943 — July 12, 2022

Waxahachie

With heavy hearts, we sadly announce the passing of our father, James Hugh Maddox on July 12, 2022 at 79 years of age.

James was born on January 9, 1943 to Mary Jeanette and Elva Hugh Maddox in Dalhart, TX. In 1961, he graduated from Tascosa High School in Amarillo, TX and went to work for the Rock Island Railroad. Following in his fathers footsteps, he worked as a Brakeman and then an Engineer. James spent three years in the US Army, stationed in Korea, working in communications. Upon moving to Waxahachie, he purchased the current family farm and went to work for Southwestern Bell, where he met his wife, LeeRuth. They were married in 1975 and had 3 children before LeeRuth was tragically lost in an accident in 1981. James continued working and raising his 3 children, while tending to the family farm. He retired from Southwestern Bell in 1998 after years of service. Throughout his life, he volunteered many hours to his church and missionary ventures, traveling to Korea and Mexico to help others. A lifelong learner, James had a passion for learning language and cultures. He was fluent in Spanish and picked up words from so many other languages, which he loved to insert in conversation to keep things interesting. He loved traveling, reading, fixing anything around the house or farm, working with animals, and most of all, spending time with his kids and grandkids.

James will be lovingly remembered by his children: Rachel (Vivek), Rebekah, and Joel (Tina) Maddox; grandchildren: Caylee, Blake, Brooke, Justin, and Kirti; Sister, Janice (Robert) Hough and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his loving wife, LeeRuth; infant daughter, Mary LeeAnn; sister, Sara Brooks; and parents, Mary Jeanette and Elva Hugh Maddox.
