James Floyd "Buddy" Hosford passed away on January 10, 2014 in Red Oak, Texas. Buddy was born on November 13, 1920, in Sterrett, Texas and attended Waxahachie High School, Trinity University(where he played football) and SMU. He was a retired postal carrier in Waxahachie and rural carrier in Red Oak, Texas where he resided until his death. Buddy was a pillar of the Waxahachie community, primarily during the 60's and 70's, when he was active in youth sports and with Waxahachie High School. The 1962 Waxahachie High School annual was dedicated to him for his contribution to and involvement with school activities. Buddy was named State of Texas chairman for the American Legion in 1977 and was responsible for bringing four state tournaments to Waxahachie. He was selected as outstanding Legionnaire of the local post in 1968. He and his wife, Gwen, were named Outstanding Citizens of Waxahachie by the local Chamber of Commerce in 1964. He was twice named Indian Booster of the Year. He was an active member of the Local Lions Club and coached the Lions Little League team for many years, along with a Pee Wee Football team. He was also active in the Junior Olympics and the Punt, Pass and Kick Program. Buddy was a proud WWII veteran serving in the Navy Seabees which was the Naval construction battalion, a true Patriot, he was responsible for the formation of an annual reunion which continued for over Fifty years. He was a true Southern gentleman-somewhat shy and reserve and never a self promoter. He led, coached and taught young people by example ie., hard work, integrity, tremendous energy, and a very special sense of humor that enabled him to "connect" with kids. A finer man never walked the earth, he was a gift to all who crossed his path. Survivors include his son (by choice-not by blood) Gary E. Vasseur, and wife Suzanne, and their daughter Kate and son Nathan. Nieces, Joan Sharp and husband Rick, Gayle Holcom and spouse Chuck, Pearlita Price and husband Walter, Sharon Hendrickson and husband Tommy, Caye Pratt and husband Allan, David Muirhead and wife Glenda, Henry Muirhead and wife Sally; sister in law Lee Ellen Cross, and numerous great nieces and nephews. Buddy was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Gwen, in 1998 and Sisters Mary, Betsy and Pearl, Brother Tom B., and parents Tom and Pearl. Services to celebrate Buddy's life are scheduled for 2:00 PM Monday, January 13, 2014 in the Pat Boze Memorial Chapel with Rev. Bob Harper officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Peak Cemetery in Midlothian. Visitation with the family was scheduled from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Sunday, January 12, 2014 at the Wayne Boze Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers donation may be made to a Pee Wee Football or Little League Baseball organization of your choice Buddy would also appreciate donations to the Seabee Historical Foundation, P.O.
