James Byrd, Jr.

James Laborn Byrd, Jr, age 67, passed away Saturday, December 17, 2016 at Baylor Dallas after a lengthy, hard fought battle against the side effects of a bone marrow transplant that cured him of Leukemia.

He was born on July 8, 1949 to James L. Byrd, Sr. and Pauline Byrd in Waxahachie. He married Sharon Allen Byrd, April 19, 1975, in Waxahachie.

Jim was a supervisor in the waste management industry for 30 years. He was a kind hearted, witty, simple man with a dry sense of humor who liked to have fun. He loved his wife, children and grandchildren dearly. He was an avid sports fan. He loved being outdoors working in the yard and detailing his vehicles.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years Sharon Allen Byrd; One daughter, Hayley and her husband Jeff Buchanan; two sons Justin Byrd and his wife Shellye of Monticello Arkansas, and Erick Thompson of Waxahachie; six grandchildren, Kayla Thompson, Lana Kate Campbell, Channing Buchanan, Easton Byrd, Laiken Byrd, and Tripp Thompson. He was also survived by his mother-in-law, Marjorie Allen. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters.

The family will receive friends and relatives at Wayne Boze Funeral Home on Thursday, December 22 from 6:00-8:00 for a memorial visitation. The family will hold a private service among immediate family at a later date.
