James Clifton Burns, age 56 went home to be with God on Friday, November 8, 2019 after losing his battle with cancer. James was born on July 20, 1963 in Norfolk, Virginia moving to Texas at the age of 3. He worked in the assembling of aircrafts for 34 years for Vought, LTV, Northrop Grumman and Triumph Aerostructures. James was a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church in Bethel and served on three committees at Bethel: Trustees, PPR and Safety.
He is survived by his wife and best friend of 40 years, Kathy Burns; his beloved daughter Cynthia Von Hatten, his grand-daughters Autumn (11) and Olivia Von Hatten (7); his son in law who he claimed as his son, Alexander Von Hatten; his brothers Larry Burns, Barry Burns and John Burns; his father Jesse Burns; and also numerous family and friends.
He and Kathy met at the age of 15 and have been inseparable since. Their marriage was an inspiration to many.
He was the “strength” of his family and could fix anything. He had a strong bond with Christ and enjoyed sharing his testimony of God with others. He was always one to be there for friends and family for anything they needed. He loved life for everything it had to offer, had many interests, had many hobbies and enjoyed a good challenge. He always had an interest of learning and building of new things. He loved his dogs Jess and Rex, his horse Chip, the country life and riding his tractor.
James Clifton Burns visitation will be Monday, November 11th, 2019 from 6 to 8pm at Bethel UMC. Celebration of life is at 10am on Tuesday, November 12th, 2019 at Bethel UMC with the grave side at Bethel cemetery. James asked that visitors dress for the celebration of his life. The family asks that in lieu of flowers you donate to the Bethel Scholarship Fund.
