Mr. JB Underwood Jr. noted farmer & Rancher, passed away Wednesday afternoon, January 27, 2010. He was born on the farm in the Boz area of Ellis county to Bart and Dellie Underwood. He was educated in Waxahachie and joined the US Navy serving proudly during W.W.II, seeing action in the Philippines and the Admiralty Islands. JB married Wilma Lord, September 22, 1943 in Bethel.
JB was a member of: The First Baptist Church where he was a greeter and Secretary of the Adult Sunday School Class,and a long and faithful member of the Mens Downtown Bible Class. He served on numerous boards and committees including Ellis County Appraisal Board, Farm Bureau, Forreston Co-op, Forreston School Board Trustee, to name a few. He belonged to the Waxahachie Masonic Logde #90, was a 32nd degree Mason and was a member ot the Scottish Rite. JB was one of the kindest men you would ever meet. His level of integrity was evident in his everyday life. He was most proud of his wife, children, grandchildren and now great grandchild. Family meant everything to him. The words used to describe him are loyal, faithful, gentle, generous, funny, caring, mild-mannered, friendly. He never met a stranger and he loved meeting people. He loved taking his family on vacations to Europe and many other special places making friends along the way.
He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years Wilma of Waxahachie, 2 sons; Brad Underwood of Falls Church, Virginia, Bart Underwood and his wife Jean Ann of Mesquite, 1 daughter Sally Shelton and her husband Mike of North Richland Hills, 4 grandchildren; Chad and Sarabeth Underwood, Beth Underwood, Natalie Shelton, Eric Shelton and 1 great grandchild Owen B Underwood. Also surviving are numerous Nieces and Nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents, 2 brothers; James and Robert, 3 sisters; Oleta Bridges, Lois Curry, Ruby Cockerham.
The family will receive friends and relatives from 5 to 7 PM, Friday at the Wayne Boze Funeral Home. The Celebration of Life will be 11:00 AM, Saturday January 30, 2010 at the First Baptist Church in Waxahachie with Dr Shane Kinnisen and Dr. Jerry Lemon officiating. Interment will follow in the Hillcrest Burial Park.
Pallbearers will be:TD Mathews, Leland Calvert,JB Sims, Greg Burdett, Bill Hurn, Jerry Dean, Al Bratcher, Gail Farnham. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Mens Downtown Bible Class.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the Mens Downtown Bible Class, P.O. Box 616 Waxahachie, Texas 75168.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Wayne Boze Funeral Home.
