J. D. Splawn was born May 29, 1920 to R. E. and Mallie Hitchcock Splawn near Waxahachie, Texas. He entered into the presence of the Lord April 15, 2008. He was a faithful and loving husband to his wife Pauline Lusk Splawn until her death.
J. D. moved to Dallas in 1939 to work for Phillips Weatherstrip Company. He was in the Navy during World War II. After his discharge he worked for Southern Pacific Railroad until 1945. He then started his own company, Splawn Metal and Weatherstrip, Inc.. After he retired, he and Pauline moved back to Waxahachie in April 1999. She passed away in June of the same year.
In June of 2000, J. D. married Lou Eva Stanley, a lifelong friend. He had been a long time member of Hillcrest Baptist Church in Cedar Hill, Texas. J. D. recently received an award honoring him for 50 plus years of faithful service as a Deacon at Hillcrest.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and two sisters, Mary Lee Vines and Edna Mae Alsup.
He is survived by his wife; daughter, Paula Myers and husband, Ray of Fort Worth; son, David and wife Reanee of Plano; grandson, Jason Splawn; granddaughters, Lorie Patch (Bryan) of North Richland Hills, Shalyn Wolfe (Ben) of Allen; 4 great-grandchildren, Brittany and Logan Patch, Haley Splawn and Benjamin Wolfe; step-daughter, Sharra Poteet (Eddie); step-granddaughters, Tonia Griffin (Allen), Angela Thomason (Shane), Bambi Bonilla, Mehgan Eaggleston (Gary) and 9 step great-grandchildren; also surviving him are several nieces and nephews and cousins.
J. D. was a friend to everyone. He loved his family, church friends, business associates and especially his golfing buddies, but he loved everyone and everyone loved him.
Services to celebrate his life are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 18, 2008 at the Pat Boze Memorial Chapel of Wayne Boze Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Simmons officiating. Interment will follow at the Hillcrest Burial Park.
Visitation with the family will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, April 17, 2008 at the funeral home.
Pallbearers include Bill Foshea, Danny Hemphill, Walter Mobley, LeRoy Perry, Jim Simmons and Jeff Smith.
