J. Sanders

J. R. Sanders, 87 years of age, from Red Oak, Texas passed away on Friday, June 25, 2010. He was born August 22, 1922 in Walters, Oklahoma to William Henry and Louvina Elizabeth Allred Sanders. He married Joyce Geraldine Davis Sanders on November 27, 1940. They were married for over 64 years until Joyce's passing in 2005. He served in the US Army during WWII. He returned to Texas after the war and began working for Texas Company and retired from Texaco Incorporated in 1984. He was a loyal man to His Lord and Savior. He was a faithful attender and served as an elder in the church. He opened his home to those in the ministry offering food and a place to rest when needed. J.R. always loved a challenge and returned to school at 53 years of age to complete his GED. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He spent his vacations camping with family and building memories. He was an early riser and loved to work outside. He leaves behind two daughters and their husbands: Donald and Cynthia Hanna and Don and Dana Houghton. He also is survived by 4 grandchildren and their spouses: Mitch and Rhonda Houghton, Missy Houghton, Clay and Jennifer Hagler and David and Amy Smith. He had eight great-grandchildren Magen, Haylee, Tyler, Andrew, Taylor, Madison, Katelyn and Noah, and he has two great-great grandchildren Rylen and Dylan. He came from a family of eight children, and he is survived by two sisters and two brothers: ML and Edna Sanders, Billy Wayne and Jean Sanders, CR and Bobby Knowles, and Harley and Jerrie Skinner. JR will be missed by his family. He was dependable and honorable. He was our John Wayne. Services to celebrate his life are scheduled for 12:30 p.m. Monday, June 28, 2010 at the Pat Boze Memorial Chapel of Wayne Boze Funeral Home with Rev. David Joseph Smith and Rev. Mike Bray officiating. Interment with Military Honors will be held at 2:30 p.m. at the Dallas Ft. Worth National Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Sunday, June 27, 2010 at Wayne Boze Funeral Home, Waxahachie.
