J. D. Atwell, 76 of Waxahachie, passed away suddenly on Monday, May 12, 2008 at Baylor Medical Center Hospital in Waxahachie. He was born on May 13, 1931 to Everett E. & Lasca Worsham Atwell in Loving, Texas.
J. D. was a respected and faithful family man. He loved his family and loved spending time with them. J. D. fell in love and married his life long companion of 54 years, Peggy Wood on August 15, 1953 in Brownwood, Texas. They were married at the St. John's Episcopal Church and thus began a beautiful life together. J. D. was an avid golfer. He enjoyed playing the game of golf and made so many close friends throughout the years. He had 46 years of service with the Texas Farm Bureau Insurance Company as a Career Agent, Agency Manager, and District Sales Manager. Some of his many accomplishments include, Master Agent for 2 years, Career Agent for 12 years, Roundtable for 23 years, All Star for 27 years, Professional Agent Holiday for 16 years, Production Club for 30 years, Million Dollar Ring for 18 years, Million Dollar Watch for 10 years and App-A-Week for 980 weeks. His service to others and the insurance profession will always be remembered. Before his career in Insurance J. D. was a coach for 10 years, coaching in Frenship, Wheeler, Farwell and Tahoke, Texas. He was also a member of the Waxahachie Rotary Club. J. D. was an avid Dallas Cowboy and Texas Tech Red Raider fan. He leaves behind so many who loved him and will never forget him.
He is survived by his beloved wife Peggy Atwell of Waxahachie; his son, Jeff Atwell of DeSoto; his daughter, Lisa McInturff and her husband, Dean of San Angelo; his grandchildren, Tiffany Jones and her husband, J. of Lubbock, Amy Basham and her husband, Roy of Lubbock, Adam McInturff and his wife, Megan of San Angelo; great-grandchildren, Julia, Avery, and Chloe Jones and Kennedy Basham, all of Lubbock; he is also survived by his beloved little dachound, Evie who he loved very much.
J. D. is preceded in death by his sister, Jessie Lee Allison and by his parents.
Memorial services to celebrate his life are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 16, 2008 at the First United Methodist Church of Waxahachie with Rev. Jerry Galloway and Rev. Kevin Wilson officiating. Private graveside services will be held at the Oak Grove Cemetery, Graham, Texas. Visitation with the family will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 14, 2008 at Wayne Boze Funeral Home of Waxahachie.
