Obituary - Irvin Winslow Botsford - 1918 - 2009

The family of Irvin Winslow Botsford are celebrating his life and legacy as a loyal and devoted man who served God and country, loved his family, church family and friends. To know Irvin, "I. B." or "Pops" as he loved to be called, was to know someone with a ready sense of humor and a joke or play on words, to make you smile.

His life's journey began November 29, 1918 in Hereford , Texas . He was the son of Roy W. and Eva C. Botsford, and together with four siblings: Aldyth, June, Loy, and Thomas, this family was raised to know the importance of honor, character, and integrity in life.

He loved music and purchased his own electric guitar and taught himself to play by listening to the radio. His work as an electrician would become his work for life after his military service. He was a Master Electrician and owner of Botsford Electric Company until he retired later in life.

Irvin served his country in World War II in the U. S. Army, Signal Corp as Tech 4, from Fort Sill , OK to St. Johns Newfoundland Fort Pepper, and back to receive his honorable discharge three years later with Company E / 40th Battalion from Camp Crowder, MO. He received American Theater of Operations ribbon and good conduct medal while his occupation was Installer Repairman TP & TG.

Mr. Botsford married Della May Jackson April 29, 1948 in Amarillo , TX . They came to Waxahachie and attended Southwestern Bible Institute, beginning life in Waxahachie where he remained almost 46 years. May Botsford is the mother of his children Rebecca, Deborah, Timithy, and Samuel.

While in Waxahachie, Irvin enjoyed being a part of All Texas State Guard, Post #137, attending Ellis County Christian Men's Fellowship Breakfasts, and being involved in college and church functions. At SBI he was a member of the Traveling Orchestra where he played the upright bass violin while attending 3 years of college. At University Assembly of God Church, he played guitar, bass violin, and sang bass in the choir. He served as a board member and loved to donate to ministries to help spread the Good News of the Gospel and helped train his children to serve the Lord as they grew up.

During retirement years, he lived each phase of life as independently as possible. He loved to find shortcuts through parking lots of shopping centers, just to avoid traffic signals, driving on his way to Owens Restaurant, thus the name "Swervin' Irvin" given to him by the restaurant manager. The name "stuck" so his son-in-law and daughter had the special cap made for him that he proudly wore in his portrait picture.

Irvin went to his heavenly home peacefully in his sleep with Becky and Chester , his daughter and son-in-law by his side, after some health complications began slowly taking his independence. On September 25, 2009 his dream of being home in heaven was finally realized.

Irvin Winslow Botsford is survived by May Botsford, the mother of his children who are: Rebecca M. Hournbuckle and husband Chester of Carlsbad, NM, Deborah W. Botsford of Bedford, TX, Timithy Winslow Botsford of Alta Loma, CA, and Samuel Eugene Botsford of Corsicana, TX. Sister: June Neel and husband Ray of Abilene, TX; Brother: Thomas Botsford and wife Peggy of Fontana , CA; two grandsons Jared and Christopher Hournbuckle of Florida , and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding Mr. Botsford in death were: Parents Roy and Eva Botsford; Brother: Loy Botsford and wife Wanda; Sister: Aldyth and husband Floyd Harrison.
