Ione C. Sullivan, longtime resident of Waxahachie, born January 10, 1916, in Medford, Minnesota, died Monday, August 11 at Buffalo Creek Assisted Living Center, surrounded by her loving family and her care givers. She was born and raised in Minnesota, graduating from Clarissa High School and then attending Nurses Training College, as well as Business College, in Minneapolis. She met her future husband, Leonard R. Sullivan, at a high school dance. They were married in Minneapolis in 1938, celebrating their 75th wedding anniversary August 10, 2013. They moved, with their family, to Waxahachie in 1956. Ione is survived by her children: Judy Coonley, and husband, Kiril; Mike, and wife, Alene; Pat, and wife, Janie; and Steve, and wife, Elizabeth; grandchildren: Kristin Walters (Scott), Tracy Terry (Seth), Susan Mello (Carl), Patrick Sullivan (Allison), Christopher Sullivan (Kelly); step-grandchildren: Deborah Hartsfield, Kylee Campbell, Clay Mackey (Shannon), Jayton Bryant, and Cindy Banks (Clint): great-grandchildren: Alexandra Reed, Lee and John Ryder, Sadie and Josie Mello, William and Theodore Walters, Emmeline, Campbell and Beck Sullivan, Chloe and Avery Sullivan: step-great-grandchildren: Will and Brooks Terry, Stone Mackey, Abby and Ty Campbell, Cloie and Carlie Banks, and Chad Hartsfield (Mel). She is also survived by her nephew, Mark Hirschey (June). She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Eileen Hirschey, and her husband, Leonard R. Sullivan. For many years Ione was involved in the workings of the family businesses, although she always felt her most important job was raising her family. Ione was an active member of the Central Presbyterian Church, and a member of the Morning Circle. She belonged to several bridge clubs through the years. She loved her bridge games, often winning, and she also enjoyed knitting, reading, crossword puzzles, following baseball and football, and travel. She and Leonard traveled around the world, often visiting family and friends living abroad. But, above all, she loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They were her pride and her great joy. She kept up with each one of them almost to the very end of her life. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, August 14, at the Central Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Dianah Weable Breast Cancer Fund, the Central Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, or to a charity of one's choice.
