Ida Kate Shiplett-O'Daniel, 89 of Waxahachie, passed away Sunday, August 7, 2011 in Waxahachie. She was born to the late Samuel E. and Velma Moses Shiplett on December 12, 1921 in Waxahachie. Ida Kate had a giving spirit which most everyone in Waxahachie knew and felt. Her gifts of love are forever shown as she hand crocheted hundreds of beautiful pieces for so many across Ellis County. In addition to her love and talent of crotchet, she also enjoyed painting and playing the piano. Most everyone in Waxahachie knew her from her beauty shop which she owned and operated from 1960 to 1975. She then moved to the down town square at Casa Blanca where she continued as a beautician until 1995. She and her husband, William Odell "Peck" Taylor, were founding members of the 2nd Baptist Church in Waxahachie in 1940, which later became known as the Avenue Church. Ida Kate played the piano at South Prong Baptist Church where Peck was worship leader. She was a member of the Forreston Friendship Club; was a 50 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Waxahachie Chapter 599, where she achieved the highest esteemed position of Worthy Matron. Later in her life, her giving never ceased, as she continued crocheting and hand made over 100 pink crotchet ribbons for so many as a stand against the fight of breast cancer. So many families and individuals still have her labors of love and she will always be remembered and missed. She is survived by her sons, Scott Taylor and his wife, Connie of Fruita, CO, Sammy Taylor and his wife, Jean Elizabeth of Ennis; her sister, Eva Nell Calvert and her husband, Leland of Forreston; her grandchildren, Cameron Taylor of Dallas, Wade Taylor of Ennis, Calvin Taylor of Dallas, Lauren Freeman and her husband, Michael of Fort Worth, and Aymie Majerski of Cincinnati, Ohio; her great grandchildren, Aliy Palmer and Peyton Majerski.
