Herman Q. Giles, age 85

Mr. Giles passed away Tuesday night at his Waxahachie residence. He was born in Milford, TX. To Roger Quincy and Edna Mae (Love) Giles. He graduated from Red Oak High School; then married Marjorie Pratt October 4, 1940 in Waxahachie. Mr. Giles had been in the monument industry for 58 years starting in his own company in 1967. He was a member of the Monument Builders of the Southwest and was awarded their lifetime achievement award in 1995. Mr. Giles has actively supported Cherokee Home for Children, carrying food supplies for the Home, each Memorial Day week for the past 18 years. He loved deer hunting with his children and son-in-law; also, he had a deep love for his family, his church, hard honest work and his garden. He was a member of the Red Oak Church of Christ.

Mr. Giles is survived by: Marjorie Pratt Giles, his wife of 63 years; two sons, Gary Giles and wife Judy and Perry Giles and wife Kathy, all of Waxahachie; son-in-law, Lynn Wilhoite; sisters, Faye Thompson and husband R. V., Geraldine Pogue and Lila Wilson and husband Clarence;grandson, Rodney Wilhoite and his wife Jenny; seven granddaughters, Ginger Mulkey, Darby Anderson and husband Lee, Melody Kirk and husband Kyle, Heather Smith and husband Clay, Amber Skipper and husband Joel, Kourtney Giles and Kaley Giles; eight great grandchildren, Kaysi and Kari Mulkey, Anna Wilhoite, Baylee and Wil Anderson, Tanner and Landri Kirk and Abigail Skipper. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Glenda Wilhoite, brother D. W. Giles and sister Othella Giles Walker.

The family will receive friends and relatives 6-8 PM Thursday at the Wayne Boze Funeral Home. The Celebration of Life will be 10 AM Friday, June 4, 2004 in the Pat Boze Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Wayne England and Walter Buchanan officiating. Pallbearers will be Tom Almand, Floyd Cockerham, James Evans, Keith Hines, Joe Pratt, Don Storm, Troy Stovall and Jerry White. Honorary pallbearers will be Charlie Bailey, Horace Bratcher, Ardell Christian, Nickie Duggan, Mike O'Daniel, Clyde Pratt, Allen Poe, and Pat Sullivan. Interment will follow in the Red Oak Cemetery.
