July 12,1923
January 30, 2008

Herman William Eubank Jr., a retired cotton ginner, died January 30 at a Sherman Hospital after a brief illness.

Herman W. Eubank Jr. was born in Waxahachie, Texas July 12, 1923 to Herman W. Eubank and Euna Mae(Hamlin) Eubank. Herman graduated from Waxahachie High School and attended the University of Tulsa on a football scholarship. In 1943, Tulsa was the only untied and undefeated team in the nation and they competed in the Sugar Bowl for the National Championship against Tennessee. Herman, then enlisted in the army like many of his generation and served proudly in the 511th Parachute Infantry Regiment of the 11th Airborne division as a paratrooper, making many jumps in the Philippines, Leyte, and numerous other areas in the Pacific Theater. His outfit successfully liberated a Japanese Prison camp in the Philippines called Los Banos and rescued 2000 POWs, nurses, and clergy that were scheduled for execution by the Japanese. He received the Asiatic Campaign ribbon with 2 Bronze Stars, the Bronze Arrowhead, and the Phillipine Liberation Ribbon with 2 Bronze Stars. General Colin Powell said Los Banos was one of the greatest accomplishments of any outfit. The maneuver is still taught at West Point to this day.

Herman married Aubrey Virginia St. Clair in 1946, his wife of 39 years. Herman worked for Moss Gordon Cleaner Company and Lummus Cotton Gin Company building gins in Texas, New Mexico, and Guatemala before purchasing his own gin in San Patricio County, Texas in 1960. He was named Outstanding Ginner of the Year for the Texas, Oklahoma, and New Mexico areas in 1980. He retired in 1984 to his favorite loves of fishing, hunting, and his grandchildren.

He is survived by his second wife, Jonetta Eubank, a son Lindsey Eubank, his wife Sandra of San Antonio, grandchildren, Kristin Eubank, Amanda Eubank, and Ryan Eubank, a son, Michael Eubank and grandchildren Justus Eubank and step grandson Vincent Jones, a stepson Mark Underwood and his wife Sandra of Austin, and a step-grandson, Sam Ross. Also surviving; a nephew, Jeff Eubank, niece, Jill Eubank Bell, and a sister-in-law, Pat Eubank, all of Fort Worth.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Aubrey Virginia (Jerry), a brother, Max Hamlin Eubank of Fort Worth, and a daughter in law, Paula Eubank.
