Gwendolyn Tapp

Gwendolyn (Gwen) June Padgett Tapp, 87 of Waxahachie, passed away Sunday, April 08, 2012 in Waxahachie. She was born on July 05, 1924 in Avalon, Texas the Lone Cedar Community to the late Shelton and Susie Mathers Padgett. She was a 1941 graduate of Avalon High School . She married her high school sweetheart, Thomas Paul Tapp on May 26, 1941 in Italy , Texas right after graduation. Gwen worked at Jan's Dress Factory, retiring after 18 years. She quickly went back to work for Condor's Day Care until she was 83 years old, where she reluctantly retired due to health reasons. Gwen loved taking care of the little ones and spoke often of missing the children, her friends and co-workers, Bruce, Nita and Robert. Gwen enjoyed cooking for her family, insisting on preparing all the food for the holidays and get-togethers so she could enjoy having her family together. Gardening and growing flowers was a passion as well as working in her yard and of course sharing those vegetables and flowers with friends and family. Gwen was a faithful member of the Central Presbyterian Church for approximately 60 years, until for health reasons she could no longer serve or attend. She served in the pre-school and kindergarten Bible class as well as a member of the women's Sunday School class. She is survived by 3 Sons: Jerry Paul and wife Sandra of Whitewright , Texas ; Donnie and wife Joyce of Waxahachie and Ronnie Tapp of Waxahachie. 1 Daughter: Sharon and husband Tony Tarpley of Red Oak, Tx., 1 Sister: Ramona Schultz; 8 Grandchildren: Shonda Tapp of Dallas , Tx. , Tonya Davis of McKinney, Tx.; Jeff and wife Mendy Tapp of McKinney, Tx., Derron Tapp and wife Lori of Italy, Tx., Luann Tapp Osmer and husband Tony of Maypearl, Texas; Riley Richardson; Melody Tarpley and fiancée Lee Christopher of Fort Worth, Tx. and Cody Tarpley and wife Rachel of Mansfield, Texas. 11 Great Grandchildren: Steryln Tapp, Callie Davis, Ashley Davis, Giselle Tapp, Rowan Tapp, Tanner Osmer, Lyndsey Osmer, Zac Mercer, Elexis Wilsford, David Wilsford and Madison Wilsford. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Paul Tapp, sister: Vivian Athale Padgett Bryan and husband Joe, a brother in law: Erwin Schultz an infant daughter and a granddaughter Melissa Ann Tarpley. Services to celebrate her life are scheduled for 10:00 AM Thursday, April 12, 2012 at the Pat Boze Memorial Chapel of the Wayne Boze Funeral Home with Rev. Jan Dittmar officiating. Interment will follow at the Italy Cemetery . Visitation with the family will be held from 9:00 to 10:00 am Thursday, prior to the service. Pallbearers will be Cody Tarpley, Derron Tapp, Jeffery Tapp, Riley Richardson, Tanner Osmer and Robert Condor.
