Gregory Lane Loftis, 65 of Waxahachie, passed away Sunday April 8, 2012. He was born to J. A. Loftis, Jr. and Janette Hendrixson Loftis on October 7, 1946 in Waxahachie. Gregg graduated from Waxahachie High School in 1963 at the age of 16. He then began buying and selling cattle and briefly worked at P & H Packing Company of Fort Worth. Gregg bought his first land at the age of 16 from his grandfather. He owned and operated livestock auction barns in Corsicana, Ennis and Waxahachie, including Waxahachie Livestock, Ellis County Livestock and Navarro County Livestock. He was a self taught auctioneer and got his start selling Methodist Lord's Acre Sales in the area. He was the longtime auctioneer for the Crowley Methodist Lord's acre sale and Ferris Heights United Methodist church in Waxahachie. Gregg owned and operated several farms and ranches; was a member of the Texas Cattle Raiser's Association, participated in hay shows, and was a lifelong member of Ferris Heights United Methodist Church. His work was his hobby and his passion. He enjoyed going to the casino, playing dominoes, and being outdoors, swimming and fishing. Most of all, Gregg loved his family and spending time with them. He is survived by his loving wife, Peggy; his children, Roxanne Lynn Loftis Pinkerton, Brandi Lane Loftis Murphree and her husband, Jake, Bobby Wallace Crabtree, Marcy Crabtree, Bethany Brodeur, Mark Brodeur and Cindy Mostettler; his father, Jim Loftis and his wife, Rosemary; his brothers, Jimmie Loftis and his wife, Sue, and Steve Loftis and his wife, Nina; his grandchildren, Kara Mae Pinkerton, Reese Isabella Pinkerton, Westyn "Zeb" Murphree, Brittany Lin Husted and husband, Patrick, Mathew Brodeur , Skylar, and Emberlyn, Jacob Brodeur, Brandon Crabtree and Lauren Crabtree; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother, Janette Loftis. Services to celebrate his life are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at Ferris Heights United Methodist Church with Rev. Carol Roberts officiating. Interment will follow at the Waxahachie City Cemetery.
