Glenda Sue Saylors Phillips
January 24, 1933-January 7, 2004
Glenda Sue Saylors Phillips, wife, mother, grandmother and aunt, left this life January 7, 2004 at her home in Waxahachie, having been comforted and cared for by her husband Weldon, and son, Butch. She was born January 24, 1933 to Hattie Mae Blum and James Monroe Saylors. Mrs. Phillips was born and raised in Milford, Texas, and moved to Italy in 1959 where she lived until moving to Waxahachie in 1978.
Glenda worked for Chilton Credit Corporation for forty years, retiring in 1996. She cared for her granddaughter Kelsey for four years. She was a member of Ferris Heights Methodist Church for 17 years before moving her membership to Bethel United Methodist Church in Waxahachie. She enjoyed teaching in the Funday School of First United Methodist Church for four years. Glenda played basketball for Milford High School from 1947-1950, and her love of the game continued throughout her life, earning her the title "No. 1 fan" by the Waxahachie Indians girls' team.
She is survived by her husband, Weldon Phillips. One son, James (Butch) Almand; a step-daughter, Kelly Floyd; granddaughters, tonya Szanto, Kelsey Floyd and Ashley Almand; and one great-grandson, Davis Szanto. Glenda Sue was the "keeper of the family" and will be dearly missed by all those who have been touched by her love, guidance and understanding, including 271 cousins, 16 nieces and nephews, 39 great-nieces and nephews, 28 great great nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Phillips was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Aaron Clay Saylors; sister, Baby Sister Saylors; grandson, Clint Almand; eight half brothers: James Darwin Martin, Marvin Curtis Martin, Murray Steve Martin, Aubrey Dale Martin, Gurnsey Welton Martin, Doyle Edward Martin, Ernest Saylors, Felix Saylors, and two half-sisters, Zula Saylors Morris, and Sibyl Saylors Barnes.
The family will receive friends and relatives on Friday, January 9 from 4:30-6:30 PM at Wayne Boze Funeral Home in Waxahachie. The Celebration of Life will be Saturday, January 10 at 3 PM at First United Methodist Church in Hillsboro with the Revs. Bob Rainey and Reed Justus co-officiating. Interment will follow at Ridgepart Cemetery in Hillsboro. Pallbearers will be Clay Saylors, Alex Saylors, Bobby Saylors, Steve Martin, Shane Rogers and Shane Raifsnyder.
Memorials may be made to Bethel United Methodist Church in Waxahachie.
