Gladys Nay, 75, First Lady of Waxahachie in 1991 and First Crape Myrtle Queen in 1999 passed away Sunday afternoon at Renfro Care Center in the presence of her family.

Gladys was born to Max and Augusta Schmidt, in San Antonio, May 5th, 1932; She was a graduate of Edison High School, Class of 1950. Gladys married Darell Nay in January 1962, and the couple moved from Dallas to Waxahachie in 1963. Later that year they established The Nay Company, Inc., where she served as Vice President and Secretary/Treasurer while raising two sons. Gladys was an active member of The First United Methodist Church, Waxahachie.

Gladys was very active in the local community by supporting the following:

United Way of West Ellis County;
Nicholas P. Sims Library;
West Ellis County Family Emergency Services;
Waxahachie Independent School District:
(Citizens Advisory Committee, 1983 Bond Election, Band Boosters, Special Olympics Volunteer, Marvin PTO, Supporter for Ellis County 4-H and FFA programs);
Waxahachie YMCA;
American Business Women's Assn.;
Served on Waxahachie Federal Savings and Loan Bank Board;
First Lady of Waxahachie 1991;
Board member of the Waxahachie Foundation;
2nd Vice President and director of Waxahachie Chamber of Commerce;
Fire Commissioner for Rural Fire Protection District No. 7;
Special Presidential Award, 1992, by Waxahachie Chamber;
First Crape Myrtle Queen of Waxahachie, 1999;
Citizens of The Year Award, 1997, Waxahachie Chamber;
Supporter of Ellis County Salvation Army;
Supporter of Senior Citizens Center, Waxahachie;
Administrative Board, SPRC Committee and various other positions, First United Methodist Church of Waxahachie;
Supporter of Ellis County Children's Advocacy Center (Gingerbread House);
and a multitude of other community organizations and individuals.

Gladys is survived by her husband Darell; son's, Troy and wife Lauren, of Carrollton, Terry and wife Jamie of Waxahachie; grandchildren, Jared, Alora, Mason and Corbin; sisters, Alga and husband Reggy Trammell of Lytle, Texas, Yvonne Wood of Mico, Texas, and Maxine Schmidt of Waxahachie, Texas; brother, Max and wife Pamela Schmidt of San Antonio, Texas; over 40 nieces and nephews; numerous other family members, and a multitude of friends.

The family will receive friends and relatives from 6 to 8 PM Tuesday evening at the Wayne Boze Funeral Home. The Celebration of her Life will be 5 PM Wednesday June 13, 2007 at The Waxahachie Civic Center. Reverend Jerry Galloway, Reverend Jim Olney and Reverend Kevin Wilson will officiate.

Pallbearers, Joe Anderle, Will Davis, James Evans, Barry Christopher, Kyle Cox, Jared Nay, Dr. Eric Newberry, and Clay Schoolfield. Honorary pallbearers will be the "Covenant Class" of The First United Methodist Church and the employees of the Nay Company.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to The First United Methodist Church Family Life Center of Waxahachie, The Sims Library, or The Ellis County Children's Advocacy Center where contributions will be matched by a current grant.
