Geraldine Boyce Sypert Schliep, 87, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2014, at Sterling House of Waxahachie. She was born on February 10, 1926 in Dallas, TX, to Robert Earl Sypert and Billie Jones Sypert, and moved shortly afterwards to Rosenberg, Texas, where she graduated valedictorian from Rosenberg High School. She attended Baylor University on a full scholarship, graduating with her Masters Degree in Music. She accepted a teaching position on the faculty of Southwestern Oklahoma State University, where she met the love of her life, Daryl Schliep, who was in Pharmacy School there. They were married on July 9, 1955, and moved to Crockett, Texas, where Daryl worked at the Christy Pharmacy. In March, 1957, Gerrie and Daryl moved to Waxahachie when he purchased the Williams Rexall Drug on the south side of the Square. Gerrie began teaching piano students in her home, and continued to teach for the next 50+ years. Her students were a joy to her, and she taught several generations of the same families. She loved finding just the perfect piece for each child, and was especially proud of the many who continued taking piano into high school. She felt that the ability to play the piano was a great gift, and one of the most useful talents to have as an adult. There was always a chance to play, whether it was Christmas carols with the family, as an accompanist to a child's school or church music program, or simply as a way to relax and play simply for enjoyment. Gerrie was a wonderful mother to her only daughter, Susan, and doted on her throughout her life. She was always up for a shopping trip, lunch or excursion with Susan and especially loved going to Northpark and eating at the Little Mermaid. When her grandsons came along, it was clear they were her pride and joy. She loved playing with them when they were small, watching their games and music and school recitals as they got older, and cooking large, delicious meals that would be the focus of fun family times. She was so proud of their accomplishments, and never tired of hearing about the current activities of each one. Gerrie enjoyed music in the church as well. She sang in the choir, acted as choir director, and played the piano and occasionally the organ during services at the First Christian Church of Waxahachie. She also played for Sunday School, Bible School and other times an accompanist was needed. Later in life as a member of the First United Methodist Church, she enjoyed going to all the music programs and filled in when needed as pianist. Gerrie was an active participant in community organizations. She and her husband, Daryl, helped establish the Waxahachie Symphony Association, and served as chairman more than once. She was a past officer and active in the Waxahachie Symphony League, the Waxahachie Junior Service League, the American Association of University Women, Friday Book Club, the Heirloom Club, and the Century Club. She loved volunteering each year to read on DEAR day for WISD. She and Daryl also belonged to several social clubs, including a supper club, the Loose Women Club, and numerous bridge groups. They always enjoyed dancing at the senior center, the Chaparral Club in Dallas, and other dance venues throughout their years. Gerrie and Daryl loved to travel, and went frequently on day or weekend jaunts antiquing, eating, or just driving through pretty countryside. They so enjoyed their longer trips all over the United States, Europe and the Caribbean, and relished finding keepsakes to bring home to family and friends. Gerrie was an animal lover, and especially loved cats. She fed many strays over the years, and always had a pet cat basking in the sun on the deck at their home. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Daryl, her parents, Robert E. and Billie Jones Sypert, and her brother, R.E. Sypert. She is survived by her daughter Susan Kosoris and her husband Jeff, grandsons Justin Kosoris, Kevin Kosoris and his wife, Samantha, Daryl Kosoris, and great-grandson Charles Alexander Kosoris, and two nieces and nephews. She leaves behind some of her beloved pets, which are being cared for by the family. Visitation for family and friends will be from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Sunday, January 19th, at Wayne Boze Funeral Home and a memorial service will be held on Monday, January 20 at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Waxahachie. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the spay and neuter fund at the Ellis County SPCA. www.waynebozefuneralhome.com "
