Gerald Loyd Almand, a life-long resident of Ellis County, died at Baylor Medical Center on January 24, 2016 in Dallas, Texas. Mr. Almand was age 75 and passed peacefully while surrounded by numerous loving family members and a multitude of adoring friends.
Gerald Almand was born on June, 16, 1940 in Waxahachie, Texas and graduated from Waxahachie High School in 1958. He married Betty Sue Junkin in 1960 and pursued his lifes passion when he went to work training horses for Mr. James Kemp and Mr. Jack Newton.
Gerald was well known for his exceptional eye for fine horses and exceled in finding and training prospects for the bull dogging event. A highlight for Gerald came in the way of a horse he found and bought as a prospect named Little Blue. Gerald trained and sold Little Blue who ultimately went on to become PRCA (Professional Rodeo Cowboys Assoc.) Steer Wrestling Horse of the Year. Some other horses that stemmed from Geralds hands were; Red Man, Chick, Buzzy and Dick. Although Gerald loved all things rodeo, bull dogging was particularly close to his heart.
