George H. Walker passed away to a better world Tuesday, June 21, 2011 after a long illness. He was born to G. O. and Mabel Walker on February 16, 1919 in Waxahachie, Texas. George began Trinity University in 1938 and was drafted, serving our country in the United States Army from February 1942 to October 1945, which included overseas. He graduated from Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas in 1946. He also attended San Francisco Theological Seminary 1948-1951 and graduated with a Bachelor of Divinity Degree. He married Lou Helen Bennett of Yuma on May 25, 1952. He pastored Presbyterian churches in Texas, Arkansas and Louisiana for the next 35 years. In 1985 he and Lou Helen retired and moved to Yuma. He served at Somerton Methodist in 1986 and 1987, and served as pulpit supply in Yuma, Wellton and Parker from 1988-1997. George is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Lou Helen Walker of Yuma, Arizona; his son, Donald Walker and his wife, Jorja of Pine Bluff, Arkansas; his daughter, Helen Anne Peil and her husband, Norb of Tucson, Arizona; his 3 grandsons, Christopher and Jeremy Walker of Pine Bluff, Arkansas and Joseph Walker, currently serving in the United States Navy; his granddaughter, Helen Irene Peil of Virginia and one great grandson, Calib Walker. He was preceded in death by his 2 brothers, Charles D. Walker and Gordon Walker; and by his sister, Mary Frances Clunn. Graveside services with Military Honors will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 9, 2011 at Hillcrest Burial Park, Waxahachie, under the direction of Wayne Boze Funeral Home. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 10:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, Yuma, Arizona , on Saturday, July 16, 2011.
