George E. Shilling, 85 of Red Oak, passed away Tuesday, March 17, 2009 at Baylor Medical Center in Waxahachie. He was born to the late Eula Faye & Marvin Shilling on October 20, 1923 in Bruceville , Texas .
George enjoyed hunting and fishing. He enjoyed playing dominoes and was the champion of dominoes and Wii bowling at the Red Oak Health and Rehab Center . George became so talented playing Wii Sports that DFW Reporting filmed a video at the Red Oak Center and did a story on him bowling. George was a man that could fix anything and build anything. More times than not, you could find George working at the Red Oak Nursing home, fixing a chair, repairing the ladies sewing machines or just whatever needed repaired. This was George and he loved helping others with his kindness and talent. He was a shipyard machinist and held various other jobs. His favorite past time was eating. He loved to sit down, spend time with his family and friends, and have a great meal. George will truly be missed by so many who knew him and loved him.
He is survived by his daughter, Maxine Sumpter and her husband, John of Malakoff,TX; his son, John E. Shilling of New Orleans, LA; his sister, Dolores Nesler of Jackson, CA; by his 6 grandchildren, John Sumpter, Jr., Joseph Sumpter , Timothy Shilling, Tiffiney Shilling, Krystal Shilling, and Jonathan Shilling; 5 great grandchildren, Elijah, Jeremiah, Kevin, Tara, and Jaiden.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mabel Clair Shilling; his son, George Shilling, Jr.; and by one brother and one sister.
Graveside services will be held at the Eddy Cemetery , Eddy , Texas at 2:30 p.m. Friday, March 20, 2009 with Chaplain Jerry Carter officiating under the direction of Wayne Boze Funeral Home, Waxahachie.
Visitation for family and friends will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, March 19, 2009 at Wayne Boze Funeral Home.
It is the family's request that donations be made to the American Heart Association, 7272 Greenville Avenue , Dallas , Texas 75231 or to your local food bank in George Shilling's name.
Arrangements are under the direction of Wayne Boze Funeral Home.
