George Rose

January 6, 1937 — December 5, 2013

George Russell Rose, born January 6, 1937 in Bluefield, VA, died at home on Wednesday, December 5, 2013 in Waxahachie, while surrounded by several adoring family members. He grew up in West Virginia. George was retired from Houghton Mifflin Publishing Company, where he had a position in sales management. Prior to his publishing career, he was a Professor of History at Concord College in Athens, West Virginia. He was an extraordinary man in many pursuits, a Renaissance man of sorts, who had an eye for beauty and a talent for cooking, painting, sculpting, wood-working and remodeling. He put these skills to work as a way to create beauty in the enviroment of those he loved. Basically, there was nothing George couldn't fix. He had an eye for ways to improve things and instead of delegating that to others, he possessed a servant's heart and would do the work himself. He was also a great story-teller and keeper of the family lore, who had a penchant for entertaining those he came in close contact with, from his adoring family to his devoted wife to his close friends. He was much loved by all who new him. He is survived by his loving wife, Nedah Rose, as well as children George Russell Rose Jr (Rusty), his daughters Julia Rose Gore and Georganne Rose, as well as stepson Derek Furstenwerth. He is also survived by grandchildren Shanna Lynn Rose, Justin Russell Rose, Lindsay Jane Wright, Iain Kelly Furstenwerth, Brandon Jeffrey Wright and David Bellamy Gore.
