George Rivas, 71, of Midlothian, passed away Friday, June 28, 2019. A graveside service will be at DFW National Cemetery at 10:15am, located in Dallas, Texas.
George was born September 14, 1947 in San Antonio, Texas to Joe and Lovie (Phillips) Rivas. He was raised in El Paso, Texas where he attended school before he was drafted into the United States Army where he served for 7 years. During his service, he was in the Vietnam War and earned a Vietnam Service Medal. He was affected by the experience of that war for the remainder of his life. George was a collector of classic model cars, NASCAR, and was a lifelong Texas Longhorns fan.
Mr. Rivas is survived by his children, Amelia (Ron) McCarty of Waxahachie, Texas, Carolyn (Scott) Kulp of Biloxi, Mississippi and Catherine Felton of Biloxi, Mississippi; grandchildren De’Anna, Sydney, Darby, Cooper and Breeley; brother Richard (Evelyn) Rivas of Albuquerque, New Mexico; brother-in-law Jerry Bentley of Clyde, Texas, George Bronner of Paducah, Texas and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Rivas is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters Janet Bronner and Carol Bentley and two brothers Fred Rivas and Joe Rivas, Jr.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made in his name to your local veterans PTSD Association, Homeless Shelter, Women’s Center for Non-Violence or local VFW Chapter.
