Mr. Maxwell passed away Friday at his Waxahachie residence. He was born in Burnbank, Lanark County, Scotland to John Maxwell and Catherine Carruthers Maxwell. George came to America when he was eight years old. He attended high school in Winbur, Pennsylvania, and served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945. He was employed with Armstrong Cork (later Kerr Glass) for over forty years, retiring in 1981. He was a longtime member (since 1966) of Ferris Heights United Methodist Church, a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 90, Waxahachie, 32nd Degree Mason, and the Scottish Rite Shriners. Woodworking was his main hobby.

His survivors include five daughters; Catherine Ann Pendry and husband Larry of Ft. Madison, Iowa; Grace Elizabeth Barnes of Waxahachie; Mary Margaret Pearson and husband Bobby of Denton; Bonnie Christine Massey and husband Carl of Kemp; Georgina May and husband Rex of Mooreland, Indiana. Also surviving is one brother, Bruce Maxwell and wife Madge of Oklahoma, fourteen grandchildren, and twenty-five great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by the mother of his children, Grace Maxwell, and his second wife Carolyn Maxwell, as well as four brothers, one sister, and a great many friends.

The family will receive friends and relatives from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, August 7, 2006 at the Wayne Boze Funeral Home. The Celebration of life will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 8, 2006, at Ferris Heights United Methodist Church, with Pastor Jan Baldwin officiating. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Burial Park. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers: George, Val, Ian, Bryan, Jordan, and Max.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Wayne Boze Funeral Home.
