George Norman Kent, 78 of Lancaster, passed away Monday, April 21, 2008 in a nursing facility in Red Oak, Texas. He was born to the late Dewey & Maggie Kent on June 7, 1929 in Valliant, Oklahoma.
Mr. Kent was a native of Valliant, Oklahoma and resident of Lancaster, Texas for over 50 years. He was known by many as Norman, others as George and others as Papa and he was loved by all. He served in the United States Army and Navy during WWII. After his military service he married his sweetheart, Dorothy and they started their family. He was a barber, truck driver and grocery store owner before starting his life's dream of becoming a farmer. He farmed in Dallas and Ellis C,ounty for over 30 years. Everyone he came in contact with knew how proud he was of his family and how much he loved them. He will be missed by all of us.
He is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy Marie Kent of Lancaster; sons, Sammy Kent and his wife, Carolyn of Boerne, Texas, Billy Kent and his wife, Becky of Mabank, Texas; sister, Evelyn Graves of Hugo, OK; grandchildren, Robert and Richard Kent, Bryan and Michael Kent, Sara Mendez, Gayle Kent; great-grandchildren, Jasmine Mendez, Emily Rodriguez and Ciara Kent; daughter-in-law, Christi Kent-Watson of Italy.
He was preceded in death by his son, Stephen Kent; and his sister, Jean Stanford.
Graveside services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, 2008 at the Valliant Cemetery, Valliant, Oklahoma with David Hulslander officiating.
Visitation with the family will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 22, 2008 at The Boze Family Red Oak Funeral Home, Red Oak, Texas.
Pallbearers include, Bryan Kent, Michael Kent, Richard Kent, Robert Kent, Monty Graves, Chad Stanford, and Tristan Mendez.
Honorary pallbearers include Ken Bradford, Rex Post, Jerry Watson and William Hulslander.
Memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.
Services will be under the direction of the Boze Family Red Oak Funeral Home, Red Oak, Texas.
