Gene Autry

June 29, 1943 — March 27, 2020

Waxahachie

Gene Arnold Autry, 76, of Waxahachie, Texas, beloved husband and best friend of Rose LaJune Autry for 53 years took hold of Jesus’ hand and went home on Friday, March 27, 2020 at his home surrounded by family that he laughed with, lived for and loved.

He was preceded in death by his beloved parents Earnest and Pearl Autrey, his loving brother Buford Lynn Autrey and his precious sister Velma Louise Autrey Gould.

Gene was born in Ennis, Texas on June 29, 1943 and lived most of his life in Palmer, Texas. He graduated from Palmer High school in 1961 at the top 10 of his class, (that’s his story and we are sticking to it!). He went on to spend time in the Air Force serving his country in the U.S. and abroad earning himself the “Good Conduct” medal.

Gene worked as a manager for Montgomery Ward, GE Capital and retired as financial manager for Citigroup. He acquired many longtime close friends from those he worked with and who worked for him. Gene spent time after retirement cruising the many oceans and waters to visit numerous countries and adventurous places with his loving wife making memories and gaining new friends. When he was state side Gene could be found at his home church, Fundamental Baptist in Palmer, Texas, playing dominoes with friends.

Besides his wife LaJune, Gene is survived by his 3 children that he loved and adored and who loved him as well. Jobeta Fisher and her deceased husband Bob Fisher ,Stacey Yee and her husband Duane Yee, Darren Autry and his wife Mendy Autry.

Gene is also survived by a multitude of grandchildren that were entertained by their Pepa/Pop’s acts of love. There is Phillip Fisher, wife Mandy, Jeff Fisher, wife Kendra, and Nathan Fisher. Continuing with Jenifer Ellis, husband Joshua Ellis, Zachary Richmond, wife Saira Richmond, Adam Yee and then Skylar Featherston with husband Travis Featherston. Topping it off with Emiline Grace Autry.

God further blessed Gene with the honor of continuing his acts of love with “Great” grandchildren; Tyler Fisher, Gavin Fisher, Ava Fisher, Beau Fisher, Caleb Fisher, Brennan Fisher, Aidan Fisher, Grace Fisher, Raegan Fisher, Sebastian Fisher, Jeremiah Arredondo, Jace Ellis, Jackson Ellis, Jazmyn Ellis, Travis Richmond, Hadley Richmond, Casen Richmond, Laina Richmond, Aubreigh Featherston and Kelly Featherston. Yes, that’s 8 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren that Gene continued to love and tell his “stories” to. He never missed out on the opportunity to laugh and be apart of all these precious lives.

Gene is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. We thank God for the gift of his life and the blessing of the time we spent with him.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the members of the Vitas  Health care for their dedication and effort to provide quality care over the last weeks. Most of all to his wife, LaJune, for her dedication and love in taking care of her husband till Jesus came to relieve her.  What a blessing of time spent with him.
