Gary Lynn Bragg was born January 19, 1952 to James M. "Buddy" and Mable Evelyn (Tuley) Bragg. A native son of Waxahachie and Lancaster, Gary graduated a trombone-playing Tiger with the Lancaster class of 1970
.
Gary grew up in the church and was led to accept Jesus Christ as his Savior at an early age by Pastor L.H. Rainey. Because of his love for the Lord and music, especially singing, it was natural for Gary to serve in music leadership at Central Baptist Church in Lancaster, Tundra Baptist Church in Canton, and First Baptist Church in Desoto. His career transitioned from nurturing the spirit to caring for the mind and body. He worked as a mental health technician at Terrell State Hospital and The Haven, before earning his phlebotomy certificate and becoming a valued lab technician at Charlton Methodist Hospital for over 16 years.
Gary's love for history especially that of his ancestors, resulted in many family "vacations" to library genealogy rooms, family reunions, and overgrown cemeteries. Gary's research yielded cousins as numerous as the stars, but his priority was always his own family. His cousin, Davena Pogue, introduced Gary to her friend Tina Taylor. After one date to Six Flags, the rest is history; Gary and Tina were married on October 2, 1977.
Gary suffered a debilitating stroke on July 2, 2016 and was in a coma until his earthly body succumbed on August 15, 2016. Buddy, Mable, and Gary's older brother Jimmy welcomed him into heaven. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Tina, their children, and grandchildren: Sheena (Bragg) and Alfredo de la O, Samantha, Ashley, Isaac, and Andrew; Joshua and Kassandra Bragg, Angel, Kayla, Caleb, and Joeb; and Alyce (Bragg) and Juan Rodriguez, Cesar, Janyce, and Nathan.
We're trading our sorrow for joy because Gary now sits at the feet of Jesus. Family and friends will celebrate his life on August 19, 2016 at 1 pm at Farley Street Baptist Church in Waxahachie, Texas.
