Galen Conyers, age 74

Mr. Conyers passed away at his residence Friday afternoon. He was born in Piedmont, KS. To Bert and Nettie (Gertz) Conyers. Galen was the youngest of nine children. The Piedmont High School graduation classes of 1947, 1948, and 1949 all claim Galen as a classmate; his diploma reads 1950. He joined the US Navy his senior year of high school and passed his GED while in service. Galen married Helen Magers on July 31, 1950. This union was blessed with six children. The family was raised in Lancaster, TX. Galen worked as an aeronautics engineer for American Airlines for 28 years, retiring on May 2, 1992. After the death of his wife, Helen, Galen built a home on Waxahachie City Lake. On May 3, 1989, he married his sister-in-law, JoEtta. Galen dedicated his life to God's glory and served as a deacon for the Waxahachie Bible Church.

Galen is survived by: his wife, JoEtta Conyers of Waxahachie; sons, Robert Conyers of Carrollton and Scott Conyers of Laredo; daughters, Renee Conyers of Charleston, SC., Kim Davis and her husband Joe of Glenn Heights, Charlotte McElroy and husband Mike of Saint Albert, Canada, Sharle Watkins of Howard, KS., and Pamela Fickle of Towanda, KS.; sisters, Jesse Oblander of Aurora, CO., Pauline Oblander of Eureka, KS., Addie Kruse and husband Walter of McGregor; and twelve grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Herbert, Harvey and John; sisters, Retta and Dorothy; wife Helen; and son David.

Mr. Conyers will lie in state Monday until 8 PM at the Wayne Boze Funeral Home. The Celebration of Life will be 2 PM Tuesday, November 23, 2004 at the Waxahachie Bible Church. Interment will be at the Red Oak Cemetery.
