July 10, 1920
December 30, 2008
Fred Edrington, long time Waxahachie resident, passed away on December 30, 2008. Fred was born on July 10, 1920 to Frank and Maggie Thompson Edrington. He was raised in the Central High Community near Ennis and graduated from Central High School in 1939. On July 11, 1942 he entered the U.S. Army and in 1943 he left for overseas duty on the Queen Mary. He arrived in Scotland on November 21, 1943. He served in Scotland, Germany, England, France, Holland and Belgium and was in the Invasion at Normandy. He returned to the States on October 27, 1945 and was Honorably Discharged in November, 1945. Fred was extremely proud of serving his country.
On April 15, 1946, his mother introduced him to her daughter's friend, Moddelle "Mollie" Davis. A romance quickly flared and they became engaged five weeks later on Mollie's 17th birthday, and were married on August 17, 1946. They lived in Ennis for two years and moved to Waxahachie in 1948.
Fred was employed with Tyler Refrigeration until 1951, then became employed with Rex Odom's Appliance House where he worked until 1983. He worked for Rex Odom,'s Pawn Shop until 1987. After retiring, he spent many happy hours in his woodwork shop at home. He enjoyed buying and restoring old furniture.
Fred was a dedicated family-man. He and Mollie always enjoyed entertaining their childrens' friends and having family and friends to visit. Holidays were always celebrated in their home with all family members attending. Before Fred's health deteriorated he and Mollie enjoyed many years of going dancing with friends. He loved to two-step. Fred enjoyed playing "42" and Canasta and they hosted many parties in their home for their friends who loved to play the games.
Fred is a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He surprised his family when he became Catholic in 2003. It was a very special event in his life. By 2006 Fred's health kept him from attending church, but he enjoyed watching the Catholic Masses on T.V. Fred and Mollie celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary in 2006 by renewing their wedding vows in a home ceremony performed by Father Mike Guadaganoli in the presence of family members.
Fred was preceeded in death by his parents, his sister Marjorie, his brother, Frank Hulen, and his only son, Rick. He is survived by his wife, Mollie, his daugher, Jan and husband Pat Koennecke, and his only grandchild (that he is so proud of !) Brian Koennecke. He is also survived by his sister, Edith Costlow, two nephews, John Costlow and Bruce Edrington, three nieces, Sharon Owens, Marjorie Dlabaj and Frankie Ann Spozio and numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews.
