Frankilou Jett

February 16, 1930 — March 30, 2016

Long time Waxahachie Independent School District educator, Frankilou Jett, passed away on March 30, 2016 at St. Vincent's Hospital in Hot Springs, Arkansas after a month long illness. Frankilou was born on February 16, 1930 in Shreveport, Louisiana. Her parents were Oscar F. Jones and Louise Huff Jones, both now deceased. Frankilou graduated from Dallas Woodrow Wilson High School and later earned a BS degree from North Texas State University in 1958; and a ME degree from Stephen F. Austin University in 1962. She also earned many post graduate hours from Texas Women's University in Denton.

Frankilou married William (Bill) R. Jett, Jr. in January of 1952. He preceded her in death in May 1970. She is survived by sister in-law, Betty Jett of Avalon, Texas. Also surviving are Margaret Epperson and husband Roy from near Royce City, Texas. There are also several nephews, nieces, and cousins that survive her. Also, left to mourn her passing are longtime friends, Evelyn Morgan and Ramona Dailey, both of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas.

Frankilou worked for Waxahachie ISD from the late 1960's until her retirement in 1987. She served as a talented teacher, 6th grade campus Principal and Elementary Curriculum Director. She was instrumental in helping Superintendent Billy Bates implement his dream of a Central Teacher Advisory Center, located on the second floor of the old Marvin School building. Leading educators from the East and West coast came to Waxahachie to share the latest education trends with Waxahachie teachers. Frankilou was the ideal person to lead this trend setting project because of her intelligence and her ability to explore new ways of teaching. The Advisory Center attracted teachers and administrators from state and national school districts. She was heard to say many times, "there is not just one right answer, but many right answers".

Frankilou was affiliated with the Christian Church. She also held memberships in the Waxahachie Educators Association, Texas State Teachers Association, National Education Association, American Association of University Women and the West Ellis County Retired Teachers Association.

True to her generous spirit, Frankilou presented the Bill Jett Biology Scholarship Award and the Jett Waxahachie Education Foundation Scholarship for 28 years. She wanted to help deserving students with their college expenses, especially those going into the teaching field.

Her favorite pastime was when she and Evelyn were traveling in this country and abroad. They made annual trips to their property in Mexico. These trips did much to satisfy her restless spirit.

Arrangements will be held under the direction of Caruth Funeral Home of Hot Springs, Arkansas and Wayne Boze Funeral Home of Waxahachie, Texas.

Graveside services will be held at Hillcrest Cemetery, Waxahachie on Wednesday, April 6, 2016 at 10:00 AM. Reverend Roy Epperson will be presiding over the service. Memorials, if so desired, can be made to the charity of your choice.
