Floyd Whatley

August 2, 1935 — January 7, 2019

The Reverend Floyd Ray Whatley, 83 of Waxahachie, TX, and formerly of Houston, TX., passed away on January 7, 2019. The funeral service will be held at Central Presbyterian Church at 402 N College St, Waxahachie, TX at 1:00pm, Thursday, January 10, 2019 with Rev. Matt Curry and Rev. David Fletcher officiating. There will be a reception following the Service at the Church. The family will be receiving visitors from 6-8pm Wednesday January 9th at Wayne Boze Funeral Home 1826 West Hwy 287 Business Waxahachie, TX 75165. Floyd was born in Opelousas, Louisiana in 1935. He graduated from Opelousas High School. Prior to college, he served in the 101st Airborne Division during the Korean War. After completing his service, he went on to Louisiana College in Pineville, Louisiana, and then after completing his undergraduate degree he attended the New Orleans Theological Baptist Seminary. After graduating from Seminary, he was ordained in the Presbyterian Church where he went on to serve churches in Texas, Louisiana, and Arkansas over his 57 year career in the pulpit. He loved being outdoors, camping all across the country.  Floyd married his wife, Patricia September 2nd, 1988; they were married 29 years. He had a big personality and was loved by everyone he met. He was a great cook, especially when it came to turkeys at Thanksgiving, or making a giant pot of gumbo. Floyd is survived by his loving wife, Patricia; children Julie Ann (partner Denice), Myron Whatley (wife Darcy and children C.R., Drew, and Shayla), Rachel Lise Stokes (husband John and children Clayton and Leah). He is also survived by stepchildren Tom Hale (wife Kelly and children Ty, Molly, Ben, and Graham), Laura Hale (husband Dan), Jim Hale (wife Dana and children Anastasia, Galyna, and Christian), Jamie Hale (husband David and children Zachary, Jacob, and Jared), and numerous great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Donald Whatley and sister Mollie Hancock. Floyd is preceded in death by his Father and Mother, Pat and Willie Mae Whatley, and grandson Chad Brotherton. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to to Friends Place Adult Day Services in Desoto, TX (1232 W Beltline Rd Desoto, TX 75115) or Central Presbyterian Church Waxahachie, TX (402 N College St Waxahachie, TX 75165) The family of Reverend Whatley wishes to thank numerous friends, care givers, and organizations that have supported them throughout his fight with Alzheimer’s, especially Friends Place, Grace Presbyterian Village in Dallas – Camellia Unit, and Red Oak Health and Rehabilitation. You all blessed his life; the family is eternally grateful for your love and support.
