Fernando Pena, Jr., 90, of Waxahachie, Texas passed away on October 8, 2024, in Midlothian, Texas. He was born on January 11, 1934, in Kleberg County, Texas to Fernando Pena and Belia (Garcia) Pena.
Mr. Pena graduated from H.M. King High School, attended Texas A&I University, and then graduated from Southwest Texas State University. He proudly served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers during the Korean War, stationed on the 38th parallel near Seoul, South Korea. He commenced a successful career with the federal government as a Logistics Management Specialist at Kelly Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas, before accepting a position with Texas A&M University Kingsville with the college of Chemical Engineering as an educator.
Mr. Pena was ordained as a Catholic Deacon in 1976 and was a founding member of St. Vincent de Paul Church. He was also deeply involved in his community, serving as a youth baseball coach and a sponsor of academic and athletic organizations as his children and grandchildren completed their education.
He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Minijane R. Pena, and their three sons: Steven (Bella) Pena, Scott (Maripat) Pena, and Shawn (Dara) Pena. He was a proud grandfather to Matthew, Joshua, Jacob, Rae, Dylan, Isabella, Alex Michael, Nathan, and Elizabeth Pena. His legacy of faith, service, and family will be cherished by all who knew him.
A Holy Rosary and Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. Fr. James Yamauchi will officiate. Interment to follow in Resthaven Cemetery.
