Evelyn was born on August 13, 1924 in Denison, Texas to Clyde and Violet Harrison McGirk.
She attended Denison High School and was on the Denison High drill team. Evelyn went on to be a highly respected seamstress, sewing women's apparel for high end retailers including Neiman Marcus and Terry Costa. Evelyn was creative in designing costumes and altering clothing for family and friends as well as teaching them to sew. She was always willing to help and teach anyone who wanted to learn.
Evelyn was multi-talented. Not only was she a professional seamstress, but she was an artist, creative in drawings and paintings, known by many for her hand crafted and hand painted porcelain dolls, which she made clothing for. Her talents also included upholstering furniture. There was nothing Evelyn could not do if she set her mind to do so. Among all of her talents, Evelyn always had time for her family. She not only was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother, but a willing friend. Evelyn loved to work outside in the garden where she grew beautiful plants, flowers, and fruit trees, but she also enjoyed fishing and boating. One of the most memorable things Evelyn left behind was Rico, her parrot. She loved everyone's pets, but Rico was her baby. Rico was rescued and Evelyn raised and spoiled him for over 40 years. Rico will miss her greatly. Evelyn started the Harrison family yearly reunion at Cedar Creek Lake almost 50 years ago where it continues today.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents Clyde and Violet McGirk, husband Carl E. Belt, brother Jim McGirk, and sister Amy White.
Evelyn is survived by her son Jim Vest, his wife Donna, of Arlington, Texas, daughter Judy Pevehouse of Red Oak, Texas, and sister Melba Goodroad of San Antonio, Texas. She had three grandchildren, Kyle Pevehouse, Karin Sapolio, and Julie Vest; five great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. She had numerous nieces and nephews. Evelyn will be dearly missed but never forgotten.
