Eugene (Gene) Hall, 87, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2021, at home in Waxahachie.
Gene was born on October 16, 1933, in Limestone, Tennessee, and graduated from Science Hill High School in Johnson City, TN. He enlisted and served honorably in the US Army and afterwards began a long career in retail management. At various times he was a store manager for S.H. Kress, Gibson’s, Kroger, Wal-Mart, Mitchell’s and HEB, serving these firms in Tennessee, Kentucky, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Texas. Upon his retirement he continued working, first at Wayne Boze Funeral Home and, until a few months before his death, as a crossing guard at Clift Elementary for Waxahachie ISD. Gene’s passions, however, were his faith and his family. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Waxahachie, a faithful member of the Wesley Sunday School class, and served on various church committees and programs. He was also involved with Gideons International for many years, distributing Bibles at schools, hospitals and hotels. For many years he sang tenor in the church choir, a tradition he passed down to his children.
He was preceded in death by his parents, David Leonard Hall and Amanda (Anderson) Hall Stout, of Johnson City, TN; stepfather Luther Stout of Johnson City, TN; brother Jim Hall and his wife Glenda of Johnson City, TN; brother Billy Hall and wife Shirley of Burleson, TX; sister Dorothy Hall of Limestone, TN, and sister Pat West and husband Bill of Johnson City, TN. He is survived by his wife, Marie (Harrison) Hall, a marriage which recently celebrated 66 years of happiness; his daughter Phyllis Chambers and husband Alton of Waxahachie; son Michael Hall of Arlington; daughter Judy Thomas and husband Carl of Rockport, TX; granddaughter Katelyn Allred of Kingsville, TX; and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in Gene Hall’s name to the First United Methodist Church memorial fund or to Gideons International.
