Elvin M. Lawson, age 89

Mr. Elvin M. Lawson passed away February 8, 2004 at his home surrounded by his wife and four daughters. He was born October 16, 1914 in Mansfield, TX. to William F. and Elizabeth (Thornton) Lawson. He spent the early years of his life in Ovilla, TX. He graduated from Ovilla High School in 1932 and in 1934 married his high school sweetheart, Dorothy F. Stinson. They celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary on Christmas Eve 2003. During World War II, he worked for North American Defense Plant building P51 Mustangs. After the war, in 1947 he joined his brother in building Lawson Brothers Hardware in Midlothian, TX. He served on the Midlothian City Council for six years in the early 60's, was a member of the Midlothian Chamber of Commerce, served on the Board of the Texas Baptist Home for Children in Waxahachie, TX. for six years, and was a Deacon at the First Baptist Church for many years. Lawson Brothers Hardware and Fence Supply was sold in 1979 and Mr. Lawson retired to his farm where he spent the next 20+ years gardening and enjoying his family and life on the farm.

Mr. Lawson is survived by his wife, Dorothy; four daughters and their husbands, Elvadine and Jim Gilbert, Darlene and Bill Mageors, Brenda and Howard Hafner, Janet and Terry Kelly, and daughter-in-law, Dottie Lawson; twelve grandchildren, Vicki Higbee, Lisa Jenkins, Roland Lawson, Derek Gilbert, Dennis Gilbert, Keri Livingston, Jill Clark, Rich Howard, Jason Hafner, Holly Hafner, Nathan Kelly, Jonas Kelly; nine great grandchildren; three brothers, W. R. Lawson of Midlothian, Ray Lawson of Marshall, TX. and Lester B. Lawson of Ovilla; one sister, Georgia Hancock of Dallas; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one son, Billy Edwin Lawson in 1999 and a brother, C. B. Lawson and twin sisters, Marian and Martha Lawson.

The family will receive friends and relatives 6:30-8:30 PM Tuesday at the Wayne Boze Funeral Home. The Celebration of Life will be 2 PM Wednesday, February 11, 2004 at the First Baptist Church in Midlothian with Dr. Rick Davis and Dr. Tom Heath officiating. Grandsons will be pallbearers. Interment will follow in Midlothian
Cemetery.
