Elizabeth Jones

Elizabeth Ann Barton Jones was born July 13, 1926 in Temple, Texas to John Allen Barton and Edna Gist Barton. She passed away Friday, October 10, 2014 in Waxahachie. Ann graduated from Salado High School and later graduated from Mary Hardin Baylor University where she was a college beauty and cheerleader. She taught school in Port Arthur and Galveston, Texas. She married Nelson W. Jones in 1951 and continued teaching in Galveston while Nelson finished medical school. They later served several years in the U.S. Air Force as he continued his medical practice there and she stayed home raising their young children. After 3 years of military service, they moved to Waxahachie, Texas where she was a stay at home mom and while he spent long hours caring for a busy medical practice. Ann found time for teaching young children at First Baptist Church and was active in numerous clubs including the Heirloom Club, the Rebecca Boyce Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Bridge and Supper Clubs and the Ellis County Art Association where she served several terms as its president. Ann was preceded in death by her parents, John and Edna Barton; also by her brother, Dr. John Barton, Jr. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Nelson Jones of Waxahachie; her daughters, Dr. Janeth Stiller and her husband, Robert of Southlake, Texas, Judith Schaeffer and her husband, Tom of Waxahachie; her son, Mitchell Jones; 5 grandchildren, Reid Stiller and his wife, Kristin, Bart Stiller, Melanie Sanders and her husband, Michael, Thomas Schaeffer and his wife, Veronica and Alicia Schaeffer and her fiancé, Will Sward. The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to Clare Bridge for their excellent and supportive care. Services to celebrate Ann's life are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 14, 2014 in the Pat Boze Memorial Chapel of Wayne Boze Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Burial Park in Waxahachie. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, October 13, 2014 at Wayne Boze Funeral Home. Memorial gifts may be made to the Ellis County Art Association or a charity of one's choice.
