Edward Holmes

Edward (Ed) Houston Holmes, 71 of Waxahachie, passed away Friday, November 23, 2012 in Dallas. He was born to the late Edward Norton Holmes and Mildred Lorraine Holmes on September 12, 1941 in Cleveland, Ohio. Ed loved playing golf, especially with his senior friends at The Old Brickyard. He enjoyed having morning coffee and solving world problems with his friends at Jenny's Café in Palmer and Cancun's in Waxahachie. He liked watching sports on television including the Texas Rangers, the Dallas Cowboys, the Dallas Mavericks, Ohio State football and PGA golf. Ed learned to cook after retirement and enjoyed making new dishes, going through his cookbooks and watching cooking shows. He spent eight years serving in the United States Air Force and loved every minute of it. He was an amateur but enthusiastic coin and fractional note collector and was just a great guy who would lend a hand to anyone who needed it. He is survived by his wife, Beverly Holmes; his son, Dean Holmes and his wife, Kim; his grandsons, Zachary and Seth Holmes; his sister-in-law, Della Sinclair and her husband, Glenn; his brother, Hal Holmes; his nieces, Janice Holmes, Heidi Sinclair, Heather Sinclair and Colleen Sinclair; his nephews, Andrew Holmes and Christopher Sinclair; and three great nephews, two great nieces and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Norton Holmes and Mildred Lorraine Holmes; also by his son, Tom Anthony Holmes. Services to celebrate his life are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 27, 2012 at the Pat Boze Memorial Chapel of Wayne Boze Funeral Home with Pastor James Southard officiating. Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 27, 2012 at the Muse Cemetery, near Elkhart, Texas in Anderson County. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, November 26, 2012 at Wayne Boze Funeral Home.
