Edna Woolley

October 31, 1918 — October 5, 2015

Edna Woolley was born on October 31, 1918 near Glen Flora, Texas to loving parents, James and Mattie Frankum. Edna was the last of her parents' twelve children, departing this world a few days short of her 97th birthday, on October 5, 2015. During her long life, Edna had the privilege of growing up in a small farming community where her family, the Glen Flora Baptist Church and school filled her life. Edna, an avid student of history and poetry, began school in a two room school house in Glen Flora and graduated from Wharton High School in 1936. On March 1, 1941, Edna married her late husband, John, and following World War II, she and John moved to the Sardis community and joined Sardis Methodist Church where she attended until her death. Edna loved to attend and sing at the Sardis Methodist Fifth Sunday Singing, and especially enjoyed the special song Raymond Earl Wadsworth would sing just for her during the service. Edna humbly received several awards from Sardis Methodist Church and was the oldest member at the time of her death. Edna and John raised their two children in the Sardis community until 1959, when they moved to Waxahachie where Edna continued her chosen vocation of wife and mother. After raising her children, Edna joined J.C. Penny's in Waxahachie where she worked for over twenty years until her retirement. Edna had a smile and gift for gab that even made strangers feel like a member of her family. Edna also loved baking pies, cakes, and bread. Her zucchini and banana bread were always in high demand and she particularly enjoyed baking for the wounded soldiers at the Dallas Veteran's Hospital, Meal's on Wheels, her friends, and family. In addition to her many friends, Edna is survived by her children, Lila Fussell of DeSoto and Byron L. Woolley of Dallas; her son-in-law, Greg Fussell and daughter-in-law Cindy Woolley; her grandchildren, Amber Fussell Knorr and husband, Brian, and Michael Woolley. Visitation will be on Tuesday, October 6, 2015 between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. at Wayne Boze Funeral Home in Waxahachie. Graveside service will be held at 2 pm on Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at Laurel Land Cemetery in Dallas. Those serving as honorary pallbearers include, Michael Woolley, Brian Knorr, Steve Armstrong, Jeff Frankum, Tony Gibson and Michael Wright.
