Edith Alma (Hentschel) Schultz passed away quietly on Christmas morning, 2024.
Edith was born on April 8, 1923, to Oskar and Olga Hentschel in Lodz, Poland. She attended a German all-girls school. She continued her education to become a medical laboratory technician. She worked in Poland, Germany, and the United States.
World War II kept Edith on the move to avoid areas of conflict. She spent several months in a Russian detention camp. Her medical training allowed her to work inside, avoiding hard labor outdoors in the cold. After the war, she settled near Munich, Germany, where she met her future husband, Robert Schultz, a U.S. Army soldier. In 1948, she came to the United States, where they married and raised a family in Solon Springs, Wisconsin.
In 1978, Bob and Edith retired to Webster, Wisconsin. They both kept busy with church and community activities. After Robert's passing in 2000, Edith made another move to West Bend, Wisconsin, in 2003. She became an active member of the Cedar Ridge Senior Community. In 2021, she made one more move, south to Texas to her daughter’s home.
Wherever Edith lived, she was engaged in a wide variety of activities: church, knitting, crocheting, swimming, skydiving, and world travel. Her life was documented in her autobiography, From Riches to Rags to Riches by the Grace of God. Her favorite scripture was Philippians 4:13.
Edith is survived by her children, B. Peter Schultz and Judith Carter; grandchildren, Michael (Jessica) Schultz, Megan Schultz (Marshall McKercher), Joseph Carter, and Jay (Michelle) Carter; four great-grandsons and four great-granddaughters.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Oskar and Olga Hentschel, her husband Robert, many family members and friends. She was also preceded in death by her ever-loyal companion, the source of her comfort and solace through all things, her beloved cat, Carmen.
In lieu of flowers, memorials will be appreciated to your favorite charity, St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Bristol Hospice, or Cedar Ridge Community:
