Dorthy Farris

Dorthy D'Ann Farris loved her family and loved her God. A faithful servant to the end, she finally went to her eternal home on Saturday, April 7th, 2018. She died at Pleasant Manor Health and Rehabilitation Center in Waxahachie, Texas.

Dorthy, known by her family as D'Ann, or Dot, was born in Wheeler, Texas on November 7th 1942. She attended Adams State College as a Physical Education major in Alamosa, Colorado, beginning her love of the state of Colorado.

After finishing her studies at Adams State, she enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, stationed at Cherry Point, North Carolina, where she worked as an inventory clerk. This is where she met the love of her life, James Raymond Farris. They married and had the first of their two children.

Dorthy moved to Lubbock and lived with her parents, Eargle and Margaret Vinson and her brother Charles while Jim was deployed to Vietnam. After Jim returned to Lubbock, Dorthy had the second of their children.

She is survived by her children Rodney and Kevin, brothers Dane, George and Gene, 4 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

The honors service will be held at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery on Friday, April 20th, 2018 at 1:30 pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family wishes that any memorial donations be directed to the American Diabetes Association in Dorthy's name.
