Dorothy Rogers
Dorothy Rogers, 72 of Waxahachie, passed away at home with her daughters and furry companion DeDe when she departed this life on April 14, 2009. She was born to George E. and Emma Goodson Estes on March 9, 1937 in Wellington, Texas.
Dorothy retired from Valvoline Oil Company after 32 years of a very successful career
Earning many awards and honors. After retirement she devoted her time and efforts
Into her community serving as a member and officers with the Baylor Auxillary, Gingerbread Homemakers, Mothers Club, Ellis County Republican Women, Ellis County Master Gardners, and Volunteered numeours hours working with children in various
schools and on mission trips.
Dorothy loved to travel and refused to let her illness stop her from doing anything
She desired to do. If you knew, Miss Dorothy, and asked how are you feeling,
She would always tell you, "I'm doing just fine." Dorothy was a true role model of an
individual who never gave up hope nor stopped living as cancer was ending her life.
She is survived by her daughters , Debbie Payne and her husband George, and Tracy Harbour and her husband Chris. She is also survived by her mother, Emma Estes and her brother, Charles Glen Estes.
She will be greatly missed by her husband of 49 years, Gordon Rogers, and 7 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her father, George Estes, her brother, G. E. Estes, her sister, Wanda Jo Taylor, and her 2 lifelong companions, Hank and Honey.
Services to celebrate her life are scheduled for at 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 17, 2009 at the First United Methodist Church in Waxahachie with Rev. Jerry Galloway and Rev. Kevin Wilson officiating. Interment will follow at the Waxahachie City Cemetery under the direction of Wayne Boze Funeral Home.
The family will receive visitors at Wayne Boze Funeral Home on Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
The family request that in lieu of flowers, that donations be made in Dorothy's name to the Gingerbread House, P. O. Box 2838, Waxahachie, Texas 75168.
