Dorothy Rogers

July 5, 1929 — May 9, 2014

Dorothy "Nana" Rogers, 84, of Waxahachie, Texas, passed away in the early morning hours on Friday, May 9th, 2014. She was born July 5, 1929 in Corsicana, Texas to the late Charley and Dollie Boyd. Dorothy was one of the most loving and selfless people you would ever meet. Dorothy was commonly called "Nana", a name she was lovingly called by many who were related by blood or by love. She knew what love meant, she knew the purpose of life was to love…to love her God and serve Him all of her days, to love her family with passion, and to love every person with whom she came into contact. She dedicated her life to loving children. She served as Sunday School teacher for five-year-olds at Farley Street Baptist Church for over forty years. She dedicated her life to working at The Texas Baptist Home for Children for 42 years, where many orphaned, abused and abandoned children found love and direction. Love from "Nana" took them shopping, to the doctor, and to the dentist. She embraced children with hugs and whispered purpose into their lives. Nana has left a legacy of love for her family and friends to continue. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents Charley and Dollie Boyd of Corsicana, Texas; and her husband Roland, the love of her life, of Waxahachie. She is survived by her three children: daughter, Glenda and her husband Morris Pevehouse of Red Oak; daughter Vikki and her husband Randy Odom of Waxahachie; and son Alan Rogers and his wife Suzie of Waxahachie. She is also survived by her seven grandchildren: Lance Odom of Waxahachie; Chris Pevehouse and wife Kim of Red Oak; Kim and her husband Mark Brown of Midlothian; April and her husband Chris Powell of Midlothian; Lynsey Odom of Waxahachie; Chad Rogers and his wife Julie of Denison; and Brandon Rogers of Midlothian, along with nine great-grandchildren: Alyssa and Abbie Pevehouse; Bradley and Brody Brown; Lathan and Reese Powell and Laiken Jones; and Ava and Annslee Rogers. She is also survived by her sister, Ina Shireman; her sister-in-law, Margree Mitchell; and several nieces and nephews. Services to celebrate her life will be at Farley Street Baptist Church of Waxahachie at 2:00 PM, on Tuesday May 13th, with her son Alan Rogers and Eddie Ballard officiating. Graveside services will be held at Waxahachie City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6-8 PM, on Monday evening May 12th at the Wayne Boze Funeral Home in Waxahachie. Memorials may be made to the Texas Baptist Home for Children, 629 Farley Street, Waxahachie, Texas 75165 or you may go directly to http://www.tbhc.org/ www.waynebozefuneralhome.com
