Dorothy Phillips

September 8, 1945 — January 28, 2017

Dorothy Jean Kelley Phillips of Waxahachie, Texas departed this world and entered into the arms of Jesus on Saturday, January 28, 2017 with her husband and family by her side. Dorothy was born in Waxahachie on September 8, 1945, the third child of Duard (D.W.) and Martha Owens Kelley. Dorothy was raised in Waxahachie and graduated from Waxahachie High School in 1963. Dorothy married Burlin Phillips on August 9, 1963 and they shared 53 wonderful years together and raised 3 sons: Rodney, Russell and Richard. Dorothy was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who devoted her life to her family.

Most recently, Burlin and Dorothy were members of the Bible Baptist Church and loved spending time with Pastor Todd Grimes, his wife Joyce, and their daughter, Elizabeth. While bringing up their boys, Burlin and Dorothy attended Ferris Avenue Baptist Church where Dorothy was also church secretary for many years.

Dorothy accepted a job at the Ellis County Appraisal District in in 1984 that evolved into a 21 year career that she loved. Dorothy retired from the Appraisal District in 2005 to begin traveling and spending quality time with her family, as now all of her boys had given her the greatest gift of grandchildren.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Duard and Martha Kelley; mother in-law, Zelma Dean Kincheloe Phillips; sister, Elizabeth Manning; brothers in-law, Danny Sims, John R. Manning, Sam Phillips, Monroe Phillips, Jack Phillips, Tommy Phillips, Wesley Phillips, and John "Bud" Phillips; sisters in-law, Phoebe Phillips, Blanche Hewell, Joy Whitt and Grace Dunson.

Dorothy is survived by her husband, Burlin Douglas Phillips; sons, Rodney and his wife, Tracy, Russell and his wife, Missy, and Richard and his wife, Jill. Dorothy had 6 grandchildren that are left to cherish her memory, Rhyan Phillips and his wife, Alyssa, Kaileb Phillips, Jessica Phillips, Kelly Phillips, Bailey Phillips and Whitney Phillips; sister, Barbara Ann Sims; and brother, Mike Kelley and his wife, Cindy. Dorothy had multitudes of nieces, nephews and friends far and near and will be missed dearly.

Dorothy's life will be celebrated with a visitation at Wayne Boze Funeral Home on Monday, January 30, 2017 from 6-8 PM with a service officiated by Brother Todd Grimes on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at 10:00 AM in the Pat Boze Memorial Chapel of Wayne Boze Funeral Home. Interment will directly follow services at Sardis Cemetery.
