Dorothy Busby Johnson, 90, passed away in Red Oak, Texas on December 25, 2024. Dorothy was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints her whole life. She was faithful and valiant until the end, always having a strong testimony and a full commitment to the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Dorothy was born on August 30, 1934, to Dorrity Eugene Busby and Shirley Kathryn Lee in St. David, Arizona. Their family consisted of 7 children, 4 daughters and 3 sons: Donna, Dorothy, Nancy, Darlene, Eugene, Joe, and Billy Dee.
Dorothy was constantly involved in serving the Lord and her family. She was always ready and willing to bring a meal, be a listening ear, tend to the sick, or cheer up the sad. She was the Music Director for 30+ years. Her gift was helping members of the church appreciate the nuances of the songs and sing the hymns correctly. During music time in Sunday School, she would even stop conducting if the congregation wasn’t singing loudly enough or weren’t participating to her satisfaction! She passed on her love of music to all of her children and supported them in music lessons. Dorothy was also an avid sports fan. She was a vocal spectator at her kids’ sporting events. She became a New York Yankees fan at a young age, which has influenced a 3rd generation of Yankee fans in the family. Whenever the Yankees were in the World Series, Dorothy would tie a large quilt so she wouldn’t be idle. She enjoyed watching the Yankees beat the Red Sox, whether in the season or especially in the playoffs. She was also a superfan of Joe Namath of the New York Jets, so we children were fans also. She loved playing card games with her family like Oh My Gosh My Golly, Scum, Spoons, and 5-Handed Rook. Busby Tacos were a favorite family meal she served often. Dorothy made a huge impact on anyone who knew her and made friends easily. She will be greatly missed for her fun and loving personality.
Dorothy is survived by her seven children: Steven (Jamie), Cheryl Sessums, Evelyn Bergquist (Steven), Jeffrey (Lisa), Andrew (Diane), Ruth Olpin, and Joel (Nikky), 35 grandchildren, 90 great grandchildren, 1 great, great grandchild, and her sister, Darlene Durrant.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Dorrity and Shirley; her husband, Charles; her sisters Donna and Nancy; her brothers, Eugene, Joe, and Billy Dee; her granddaughters, Alexis and Amanda, her grandson Phillip, and her son-in-law Rex Olpin.
