Dorothy Louise Shinpaugh Jacobs, age 93, passed away peacefully on April 13, 2021 after a brief illness in the Legend Oaks Nursing Home in Ennis, Texas.
She was born July 11, 1927 at home on Highland Street, Waxahachie, Texas, the second of eight children, born to Cecil Sephus Shinpaugh Sr. and Lois Lavara Moffett Shinpaugh. Dorothy's dad was born in Reagor Springs, Texas, and her mom in Laurel, Mississippi; although most of her mom's life was spent in Waxahachie.
Dorothy lived her entire life in Waxahachie. She attended Sardis School and graduated from Waxahachie High School in 1945. Soon after graduation, she began a career as a pioneer switchboard operator for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, later AT&T, where she worked until retirement after 38 and a half years.
She met the love of her life, Tillman Hollie "T. H." Jacobs, and they fell for each other right away. They were married on September 27, 1947, and they adored each other for 68 wonderful years.
Although both the couple wanted children, it wasn't to be for many years. As an alternative, they would keep their nieces and nephews on the weekends, taking them out to eat or on short trips. Later they extended an open invitation to family members to come and swim in their pool. And of course, they always provided great snacks to pair with the great memories.
In 1965, their prayers were answered and were given a son, Jeffrey Todd Jacobs. Their family was truly complete, and they were blessed with many years together.
Dorothy was an excellent seamstress and made all her clothes, including her coats. However, she was best known for taking notes on everything, researching any issues and always looking for solutions to problems. In addition to all the other, Dorothy was a loving and dedicated daughter. Every Saturday she cut and set her mom's hair, took her to buy groceries and saw to her parents medical needs.
In 1991, Dorothy's family grew to include a grandson, Justin Blain Jacobs. Later, Justin made her family complete by giving her a great granddaughter and grandson. Dorothy was a good grandmother and loved her little family. She was at every school event, sports event and made birthdays and holidays special events that we will always remember.
Dorothy has joined the love of her life, T. H., her mother and father, and her brothers, Cecil Sephus "Son" Shinpaugh Jr., Grady Clifton Shinpaugh, Hugh Charles Shinpaugh, James Carl Shinpaugh, and Leland Gilford Shinpaugh who have preceded her in death.
Those who will miss and remember her always include her two sisters, Shirley Ann Shinpaugh Allred and Linda Beth Shinpaugh Featherston; son, Jeffrey Todd Jacobs; grandson Justin Blaine Jacobs and wife Shay; great granddaughter, Cooper Jacobs; great grandson, Jetton Jacobs; uncle and aunt, Oscar and Jean Shinpaugh all of Waxahachie; sisters-in-law, Marie Shinpaugh of Ohio and Sharon Shinpaugh of Quinlan; brother-in-law, Frank Croy of Keller and numerous nieces and nephews.
