Dorothy Annetta Humphries

Dorothy Annetta Humphries, age 87, passed away May 13, 2024, at Bluebonnet Rehab & Nursing Facility in Ennis, Texas.  She passed from us peacefully after battling with ongoing medical conditions for the past 2 years.

She was born, Dorothy Annetta Rodgers, in Waxahachie Texas on September 28, 1936, to Willie Roy Rodgers and Viola Pearl Owens Rodgers.  She was raised with 3 other siblings, a sister Juanita and 2 brothers Wilbur and Gerald.  Growing up in a Christian Family, she attended Farley Street Baptist Church where she would play piano and organ for Sunday Services, as well as, playing for The Baptist Home.

Graduating from Waxahachie High School in 1955 she found her first job as a telephone switchboard operator; and shortly thereafter married Charles Humphries.  In 1957, she and her husband transferred to Decatur, Texas where they started a family.  As a wife, mother and working parent she raised 2 children; and, along the way lived in Decatur, Corinth, Mesquite, Plano, and Desoto before returning to retire in Waxahachie.

Dorothy, always a hard worker, held numerous job titles during her lifetime.  Many times, working 2 jobs, as well as being a wife and mother.   She retired at age 76 as a Bail Bondsman.  

She is survived by her children LaNita LaFon, Larry Humphries, son-in-law Mark LaFon, grandchildren Dustin LaFon and Haley Epperson, along with numerous great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.  

There will be a Public Graveside Ceremony for her at Hillcrest Burial Park of Waxahachie on Monday, May 20, 2024, at 10 am.  There will not be a Visitation or Chapel Service and the family is asking that no flowers be sent.  Your attendance at the graveside service is welcome.
