Dorothy Fern (Borders) Crawford peacefully passed away on Friday, March 22, 2013 at the age of 93. She was born on January 3, 1920 in Waxahachie, Texas to Roy and Annie (McAlister) Borders. Dorothy attended Waxahachie schools and graduated high school in 1937. She also attended Baylor University. Dorothy married Ross Crawford Jr. on June 23, 1939 at the Ike Baptist Church. They were married for 57 years before he passed away in 1996. Dorothy was a homemaker while her children were young. Later she worked as an office assistant to the County Superintendent of Schools retiring in 1980. She was a loyal member of the First United Methodist Church in Waxahachie for over 70 years and a faithful member of the Fidelis Class. She was a former member of the Wednesday Bible study and enjoyed working with the United Methodist Women where she held several offices. Dorothy will be remembered for her wit and sense of humor. She belonged to The Bridge Club for many years and enjoyed a good game of dominoes with members of the Fidelis Class. She was a dedicated volunteer at church, local nursing homes and the Waxahachie Food Bank until her health begin to decline. She is survived by three children: son, Ross Crawford, III and his wife Lana of Carrollton, daughter Claire Burnett Black of Dallas, and daughter Cindy Dillbeck and her husband Joe of Oak Leaf. She also is survived by two brothers, Dave Borders and his wife Peggy of Waco, and Roy Borders of Cedar Hill. She was blessed with three grandchildren: Brooke Burnett of Dallas, Candice and her husband Al Bolivar of Dallas and Blake Burnett and his wife Dawn of Plano who knew her as "Grandmere". Her blessings continued with five great grandchildren: Lilly and Clara Bolivar, Autumn, Addison and Avery Burnett. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 26, from 6-8 PM at the Pat Boze Memorial Chapel of Wayne Boze Funeral Home. A celebration of her life is scheduled for 2 PM Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at the First United Methodist Church with Reverend Jerry Galloway officiating. Interment will follow at the Hillcrest Burial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church or a charity of your choice.
