Dorothy Mae Kuhlman Copass entered the Lord's Kingdom on Tuesday, January 15, 2013, at the age of 85 years, 11 months, and 27 days. Dorothy was born on January 19, 1927, in Austin, Texas, to Henry Louis Kuhlman, Jr., and Martha Roessler Kuhlman. She was raised in Austin, where, after her father's untimely death when Dorothy was an infant, her mother and she lived with her mother's parents, Herman Karl Roessler and Emma Mauer Roessler and enjoyed close relationships with many relatives on both sides of the family. Dorothy attended Austin High School, where she was an outstanding student, receiving the Citizenship Award and serving as a member of the Red Jackets Pep Squad. She graduated from Austin High School in 1944 with Honors, after which she entered the University of Texas to pursue a degree in Home Economics. She met her future husband, Benjamin Andrew Copass III, in Mineola, Texas, when she was 14 and he was 17. When Ben transferred from Rice University to the University of Texas at Austin after his freshman year, they began dating. By the time Ben was deployed for active duty in World War II in February 1944, love had blossomed, and at some point that year they became engaged when Ben sent her a beautiful diamond solitaire by Special Delivery. They married on January 29, 1947, and enjoyed 64 years of wedded bliss before Ben's passing on March 23, 2011. Throughout her life, Dorothy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was always involved in her daughters' activities, serving for a number of years as a Brownie and Girl Scout Leader, and with the Waxahachie Band Booster Club, faithfully chauffeuring them to school, piano lessons, band, basketball, and football games. She also was a longtime member of the Waxahachie Century Club, a member of the First Baptist Church of Waxahachie, and a Hospital Auxiliary Volunteer. Throughout her and Ben's lives, they remained devoted to family and a wide circle of friends and enjoyed discussing the books they read, everything from history and current events to bird watching, and traveling throughout the American West. Dorothy is survived by daughters Sue Copass, Cindy Copass Woolley, and Sally Copass-Jackson; grandchildren Angela Craig and Michael Woolley; great-grandchild Claire Emma Craig; son-in-law Byron Woolley; and grandson-in-law, Donovan Craig. Visitation for family and friends will be at the Wayne Boze Funeral Home in Waxahachie, Texas, on Friday, January 18, 2013, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Services to celebrate her life will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 19, 2013, in the Pat Boze Memorial Chapel of Wayne Boze Funeral Home. Interment will follow at the Waxahachie City Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Waxahachie Century Club and the Girls Scouts of America. www.waynebozefuneralhome.com
