Doris Katherine Morris York died Wednesday, July 13, 2005 at Walnut Place in Dallas, Texas. Mrs. York was born August 3, 1915 in Coryell, Texas to Ernest B. and Lanie Morris and moved to Waxahachie, Texas as a young child. A graduate of Waxahachie High School, Doris married Robert H. York, Jr., on November 15, 1933. He preceded her in death on August 2, 1988. She was also preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Billy Morris and Carroll Morris and one sister, Mary Morris Harris.
Mrs. York was employed as a bookkeeper at Lasswell Wholesale Grocery and Lone Star
Gas Company in Waxahachie and served as Ellis County Auditor for several years. During World War II she was employed at North American Aviation in Grand Prairie. She was a member of the Central Presbyterian Church for over seventy-five years.
Mrs. York loved to garden and her garden loved her back. She could make any flower or plant grow and bloom. She was conservative with her finances but generous with her love, especially to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Janis York of Dallas; grandchildren Kathy and Mike Sutton of Katy, Texas; Alan and Leah York of Houston, Texas; and Susan and Bill Kocak of Irving, Texas; four great-grandchildren, Brad and Thomas Sutton of Katy, Texas and Katie and Will Kocak of Irving, Texas; two nephews, Farrell and Bob Morris and one niece, Martha Lynn Harper. Numerous other relatives and friends also survive.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Alan York, Michael Sutton, Bill Kocak, Brad Sutton, Thomas Sutton and Bob Morris.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 PM Friday, July 15, 2005 at the Wayne Boze Funeral Home, 1826 W. Hwy. 287 Business in Waxahachie, Texas. Funeral services will be 10 AM Saturday, July 16, 2005 at the Wayne Boze Funeral Home with burial to follow at Hillcrest Burial Park, Waxahachie, Texas.
The family asks that memorials be made to Central Presbyterian Church, 402 N. College St., Waxahachie, Texas 75165 or First United Methodist Church, 1928 Ross Ave., Dallas, TX. 75201.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Wayne Boze Funeral Home.
